Reiki
is a Japanese technique for balancing the body’s energy. We all have electricity that flows through
our bodies – that is what EEG and EKG machines measure. Sometimes this energy becomes blocked and
does not flow the way it should. Reiki is one way, a very noninvasive way, of removing any blockages and
restoring energy balance. In fact, both acupuncture and yoga address these same energy blockages.
Dr. Mehmet Oz (often seen on Oprah) of New York Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center includes a Reiki practitioner
as part of his team when performing open heart surgery or heart transplants. When Reiki was given before
and after surgery, the patient experienced a much better recovery. Manhattan
Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital as well as Memorial Sloane Kettering Hospital also offer Reiki as they have found that patients
recover faster and with less pain.
Reiki is not a substitute for medical treatment, but can be an effective complement to any treatment program.
Reiki has been used for cancer patients, Aids patients, those facing surgery, as well as anyone dealing with the stresses
we all face in our everyday lives.
Clients are fully clothed during a session and experience a deep state of relaxation. Most of my
clients fall asleep during the session. Don’t worry; it still works as long as you do not consciously
fight it. It is common to feel heat or a tingling in your body – or you may feel nothing.
Clients generally feel energized afterwards and frequently report that they sleep wonderfully that night.
Note that Reiki never causes harm. It can only help.
I look forward to introducing you to this gentle, life-changing practice.
